Various consulting roles I have been in for over 20 years created the foundation and informed my blended approach to coaching and facilitation.
For example, my lifelong study of philosophy, history, literature, Chinese and Ayurvedic Medicine, classical subjects of Vedanta (Yoga and Jyotish), and Vajrayana Buddhism, changed my understanding of what constitutes "reality". As much as reality is solid it is also a dance of energies - both internal that we have some influence over, and external, that we usually need to accept. In that context, traditional stories, mythology, creative play, and spiritual practices could have a significant role in how we transform our understanding and accept change. Your advisors, like myself, should be trusted partners in creating your own "life strategy". They should be able to help you with an understanding of how to balance the responsibilities and duties of professional, personal and spiritual life (Dharma) with a need to have a more authentic, joyful, and creative life (Artha).
Further, my professional background in both, for-profit and non-profit sectors, prepared me uniquely to assist people on their work-oriented, "Dharma-driven" path. Our joint attempt to create better options may include articulating and integrating your life purpose with your work, and discovering what is within your reach already.
Finally, my clients come from all walks of life: from entry-level administrators to blue-collar, workers managers, executives, entrepreneurs, stay-at-home moms, social justice activists, artists, and academics. Sometimes reflection and new direction are needed amid an intense personal growth phase' marked by divorce, widowhood, or an empty nest. Sometimes we need strategies to retreat from the marketplace to pursue something fresh and new.
To have a space to deepen the understanding of ourselves is a privilege and luxury that should not be taken lightly. It also means that you have made a courageous step forward to manage the irrational or overly emotional part of Self more intelligently, persistently, if not compassionately. Life needs to be managed so we will make choices we will not regret, develop strategies that are future-proof, and lighten our burden by finding joy in all of the work and relationships we encounter.
